The United States Embassy has expressed concern over reports of police shootings and abductions during protests. In a statement, the embassy regretted the loss of life and destruction of property, urging all parties to maintain peace and uphold the rule of law. “We are deeply concerned by reports of violence, including shootings and abductions of protestors, journalists, and others. Constructive engagement of citizens and civil society, aided by a free and independent media, is a pillar of democracy. These are values we share with Kenya and which we must all protect,” the statement read. The embassy urged the police to exercise restraint and safeguard the rights of Kenyans to demonstrate peacefully.
